History of the CentreIn December of 1986, the Minister of Community and Social Services stated it would support the development of a new community-driven children's mental health service for the Sudbury area. Five principles were identified to guide the development of the service:
The new service called Children's Mental Health Services (Sudbury) / Services de Santé mentale pour enfants (Sudbury) was incorporated in the spring of 1990 and began operating at le Carrefour Francophone in December, 1990. The Centre received its French Language Service designation in September 2002. The Centre was fully accredited by Children’s Mental Health Ontario in November 2004. In August 2005, the Centre’s service delivery area was expanded to include the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin and in August 2007, the Developmental Clinical Services were transferred to the Centre from the Northeast Mental Health Centre. The Centre’s Letters Patent were amended in July 2005 and the Centre’s name was changed to the Child and Family Centre / Centre de l’enfant et de la famille / Ngodweaangizwin Aaskaagewin. In December 2007 Supplementary Letters Patent modified the Objects of the Corporation and designation as a Charitable Organisation was received. Since its inception, the Centre operated offices in Sudbury at various locations. Its present locations consist of:
Since 1990 the number of clients grew from 980 to approximately 2,300 clients served in 2007/08. |
