INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA TREATMENT MODEL (I.T.T.M.)

Purpose of program:

Provide assessment and treatment for children who have experienced emotional trauma. The program teaches the child’s caregiver to recognize behaviors triggered by the child’s thinking and feelings, and to develop awareness about their own reactions to this.

The Intergenerational Trauma Treatment Program occurs in three phases:
  1. Trauma Information Sessions – 6 weeks group for caregivers and teens.
  2. Assessment and Treatment of the caregiver 6 – 10 sessions, individual.
  3. Assessment and Treatment of the child 6 – 10 sessions.

Admission criteria and process:

  • Caregivers (parents, guardians or foster parents) of children having lived a traumatic event must commit to participate in the program and to remain involved in their child’s life for the duration of the program.
  • Children 3–18 years of age, who have lived through a traumatic event.
  • Clients assigned to a Clinician are evaluated and recommended to the program.
