FAMILY INTERVENTION AND SUPPORT PROGRAM

Purpose of program:

To provide a coordinated, collaborative community response in those cases, initiated through the Children’s Aid Society protection service streams, where a child is at risk and the child’s behaviours, coupled with the parents’ care giving skills or response to the child, have created a crisis within the family unit. As a result, there are mental, emotional health or behavioural issues that require protection intervention. Services: A 6 to 8 week program which seeks to:
  • Provide an immediate, tangible support service to families in crisis;
  • Create an immediate safety/stabilization plan;
  • Parents skill training;
  • Social skills training for children and youth
  • In-home support.

Admission criteria and process:

The Children’s Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. Children who are deemed by the Children’s Aid Society to be at moderate risk of maltreatment and could benefit from a joint service delivery model by CAS and CFC.
  • Services by this program are initiated through the Children’s Aid Society protection service streams;
  • Referrals that could be assisted by this program include the following: parent/child conflicts, emotional and physical harm/maltreatment, neglect, sexualized behaviours of children as well as care giving skills.
  • Client must be an active protection case of the CAS residing in the primary care giver’s home who are deemed to be at risk, up to the age of 16.
